Which direction is your relationship going?
I am very grateful for the relationships in my life where I can be myself and more – being accepted as I am, supported to grow, share my knowledge and learn from one another.
A relationship involves two individuals. When they first meet and get to know each other their paths come closer and closer together as they find things they have in common, start sharing life experiences together, and learning from each other.
As each learns more about the other they may grow to love one another, and the paths come closer and closer together. In some instances this leads to a commitment, where the two paths meet.
They continue to grow from this point, but which direction? For many their path continues in the same direction as before they met. Goals and values start to differ from one another, they start to argue, finding more and more differences as each grows at a different rate, or starts taking up new hobbies that take them away from their partner and to new life experiences. This leads them slowly but surely apart and can lead to divorce. But this is a natural process of life.
It can be less than easy to reverse this process when continuing to live life using the same model of the world you’ve always lived by. We don’t know what we don’t know. Our model of the world is what has shaped us into who we are today. But is this who you want to be? What if you could improve it?
There is a different path that a relationship can take. One where you grow together as individuals. So while you have differences, you can also support and encourage those differences in each other. Isn’t it those differences that brought you together in the first place?
Do you need help with your model of the world, to learn ways to open up new perspectives? NLP can help empower you.
