Christmas is always promoted as a happy time to be shared with family and friends. This year have a thought for those that are grieving.  There will be people for who this time of year is a reminder of someone that has passed away, the family they’ll never have, or it stirs emotions of bitterness and anger, and cause arguments with family.

We are the master controller of our emotions.  We choose how we respond to someone or something.  Rather than choosing to re-act, why not choose how it is you want to spend your Christmas feeling and focusing on that. Achieving your goals, whether emotional or physical, is an inside job.

What do you think of when you think of the Christmas season, or any other special occasion? Are they positive thoughts or negative thoughts?  Do you imagine being able to share a meal and share quality time with people you appreciate? Do you see yourself home alone, either being miserable, and resenting the Christmas season?  Each one of these projections reveals your current thinking, which is either holding you back or propelling you forward towards experiencing richness in your life.

Stop for a moment and really imagine how your life would be if you were already feeling emotionally fulfilled – if you were living life on your own terms, following your possibilities and not your limitations. Some people are surprised that their answers are not that different to what they are experiencing now. If that’s you, congratulation, you’re already emotionally stable.

But if you’re not emotionally stable yet, it’s not your fault, it’s not your parents’ fault, it’s not even society or the government or fate that’s to blame.  It’s an indication that your current emotionally programming may be faulty.  Your mind is like a computer – and life a computer, it’s only as effective as the software it’s running.

You get more of what you focus on.  If you focus on bitterness and anger, you will tend to get more of that in your life. If you focus on positives you already have in your life, you tend to get more of that.  It’s vitally important to reprogram your unconscious mind so that you are continually focused on what you want to create.  In this case being emotionally stable and enjoy Christmas.

There are essentially two way to do this.  The first is by being mindful of the positive qualities in you, others, and your life. Stop for a moment and think about something in your life that brings you a sense of pleasure, satisfaction and meaning. Did you think about someone you love? An activity you enjoy? A beautiful sunset? Your health? Your happiness? Over the next few weeks, in preparation for Christmas, you can easily reset your perceptual filters to notice how amazing you already feel – how much you control your emotions and can focus on the positives – feeling all the amazing benefits that this brings into your life.
